Seeking joy
Think back to when you were a kid. Let’s say, 6 years old. Picture your life then, your surroundings, your friends, your environment. What did you love to do? What filled you with joy? What made you belly laugh? What were the activities that made you lose track of time, forget yourself and your ego, and just be fully IN IT? Close your eyes and picture that time in your life.
Now, when was the last time you asked yourself those questions about your current passions or how you spend your time? As working parents we get so busy taking care of our families, plotting our career, focusing on our clients needs, that putting ourselves last becomes ingrained. Putting ourselves last keeps the machine running, or so it seems. Many of us don’t even realize we’re doing it.
The idea of simply “putting yourself first” is lovely, but how do you actually do that? Where do you even begin? It can be overwhelming to think about - add that to the never-ending list of “to do’s”!
Taking the deliberate time to figure out who you are, what you love to do, and what fills you with energy is so important. Once you do that, you can make changes to your life and your career to align with those things. To make time for those things. Because those things make you who you are.
